What to expect for a Studio Newborn Session
Before the session
- The session includes portraits with the baby’s parents and siblings (if any), so when choosing your outfit for portraits, avoid any distracting logos or patterns to keep the focus on the baby. Keep colours solid & neutral and dress very lightly as the studio will be very warm.
- If your newborn is under 4 weeks, bring an extra outfit for yourself in case your baby has an accident on you during your portraits.
- All props are provided so you don’t need to come with any outfits for baby. However if there is something sentimental you want included in the photographs feel free to bring it.
- If you have any hobbies you want integrated into the shoot such as fishing, football, gardening etc please let me know ahead of time. If your baby is a rainbow baby or a baby conceived with fertility treatments and you would like a setup to symbolize this, let me know as well.
- Feel free to share with me any inspiration photos from online that you would like to get out of the session.
- If you are breastfeeding, try to avoid eating any spicy or dairy foods 24-36 hours before the session to ensure your baby’s tummy is settled for the session.
- If you are running late, kindly message or call as much in advance as possible to let me know. If you are coming from East or South areas, please remember that there is a lot of traffic on weekdays coming into POS so you may need to leave extra early to make it on time.
- The studio is located on the top of a VERY steep hill but a car should be able to make it up fine.
During the session
- A newborn session can take up to 3 hours which allows enough time for feeding, changing and comforting your baby.
- Because of the length of this shoot I recommend having a meal before you come. Snacks, water and coffee/tea are available at the studio.
- There is no set structure or timing for the session, we go with the flow of your baby and enjoy the time together!
- For babies under 5 weeks old, the session does not usually start until your baby is sleeping so if baby is awake when you arrive, we take the time to feed, comfort and get baby sleeping. Older babies can be awake for most of photos.
- The studio is equipped with a changing table, rocking chair and baby supplies if needed. There are also toys to entertain younger children.
- It's recommended that immediate family only come to the session if possible, or as least possible persons as too many people can unsettle the baby.
- The session includes provision of all newborn props such as baskets, backdrops, blankets, wraps, headbands and outfits. You can choose which props you want or you could let me choose for you.
- Cleanliness is very important to my business. All blankets and outfits are washed in baby soap, gentle for your baby’s skin. The studio is also cleaned thoroughly and all props are sanitized prior to each session. I also hand sanitize myself regularly throughout the shoot. All COVID protocols are followed at my studio. Masks must remain on except when its time for your portraits.
After the session
- Photos are delivered via email and website download within 2-3weeks after the session. Sneak peeks are usually sent within the first week.
- All photos are high resolution and without my watermark so you can print on your own. I highly recommend that you use a good printer as this can make a huge difference.A high quality image oriented at
- As an additional service, I provide printing services of blocks, canvas and photo books.
- I always ask my clients first if they are comfortable with photos being posted on social media. I completely respect clients wishes if they prefer to keep their photos private.
The more relaxed you are for the session, the more relaxed your baby will be too. Don’t be nervous, the session is lots of fun!
Thank you for trusting me to capture this beautiful time of your life. I look forward to creating a wonderful experience and memories for your family.
